The End in Nashville, TN is easily one of my favorite venues. I’ve had the chance to see plenty of Nashville locals there and it’s a great spot to showcase the underrated metal scene in a city dedicated to country music. Deathcore band Fit For An Autopsy made a stop at the venue just a few days after kicking off their latest tour supporting the new album The Sea of Tragic Beasts. After a few of the touring bands were unable to make it to this show, Nashville’s own Divisive took the opening spot and delivered a blistering set in front of the sold out crowd, even showcasing a guest vocal spot from Exalted’s Nick Cross on “MK-Ultra.” They were the perfect pick for this lineup, as Divisive has a huge following in the Nashville metal scene that was already there for the headliner. Lorna Shore took the stage next, continuing the energy that Divisive began and delivering a 5-song setlist including “Flesh Coffin,” “Darkest Spawn,” and “This Is Hell.” Rivers of Nihil was also on this bill, a band that’s probably one of the most unique in death metal, incorporating a technical, progressive sound with the occasional saxophone solo and clean vocals. Their setlist included “Soil and Seed,” “Where Owls Know My Name,” and “Monarchy.”

Finally, it was time for Fit For An Autopsy, who debuted on stage as “Fat Bottomed Girls” by Queen blasted through the PA. They kicked off their set with “The Sea of Tragic Beasts,” with their signature pick scrapes and frontman Joe Badolato’s recognizable vocals. I was very impressed with the band’s sound, as Badolato’s voice stayed consistently strong all night and the guitars played off each other so well. The pit was active during the entire show, but Fit For An Autopsy’s breakdowns really incited some fun violence from the crowd (and even photographers – I put away my camera to join the chaos). The room was absolutely packed at this point, and several fans were jumping in the crowd and getting on stage to scream along in Badolato’s microphone. Their setlist also included several older favorites, including “Do You See Him,” “Murder In The First,” “Black Mammoth” and the encore of “Hydra,” which incited a chorus of screams from the fans. Again, this venue is my favorite little spot in Nashville. It’s a challenge to take photos there, but it’s a challenge I love. The venue is home to so many memorable shows. Even Badolato mentioned during the set that this particular show was so much more insane than the last time they made a stop at The End. This is the perfect experience for any metal fan wanting to throw down, practice their screams, and get up close and personal with a deathcore giant.
