A Dirty Dozen with ROXXI DOT from THE SAVIOR COMPLEX – October 2019
According to a recent press release: “Based in Las Vegas, The Savior Complex is a stand-out band that will be making waves in the music industry before you know it. Creators Anthony X (also known as the Sinister Minister) and Jay Gordon have shaped The Savior Complex to bring a unique sound with an avant-garde feel to listeners. Gordon is known for his work with well-known bands like Orgy, Korn, Linkin Park, and Crazytown. The creators of The Savior Complex are no strangers to the music industry, and the unique sound will have listeners hooked from the first listen.” We get Roxxi Dot to discuss new music, influences, and much more…
1. Tell us a little about your latest release. What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through? Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?
Roxxi Dot: Being a hired gun, styling the video, I came up with a concept for Halo being addiction. Addiction is something that has a pretty face and then removes its halo when you are not ready. It’s very ugly. I was the bad guy that was the embodiment of temptation to bring you back to the dark side.
2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?
Roxxi Dot: My dad passed away. I inherited his bass and rig. I vowed to carry on his legacy and I did it.
3. Building on that, is there a specific song, album, performer, or live show that guided your musical taste?
Roxxi Dot: Englebert Humperdinck
4. Who would be your main five musical influences?
Roxxi Dot: Marilyn Manson, HedPe, Jack Off Jill, Mac Miller, and Gene Simmons.
5. If you could call in anyone collaborator to do a song with, who would it be, and why?
Roxxi Dot: Ace Frehley.
6. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before? What is the one comparison a reviewer or fan has made that made you cringe or you disagreed with?
Roxxi Dot: Ask Jay Gordon from Orgy. I don’t pay attention to bullshit.
7. What’s the best thing about being a musician?
Roxxi Dot: The rider.
8. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?
Roxxi Dot: This is no Kumbaya motherfucker. Mike Storm is our chef. Bitches get our drinks. Acoustic is for lullabies.
9. When was the last time you were star struck and who was it?
Roxxi Dot: Donny Osmond and Keith Sweat.
10. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?
Roxxi Dot: Yours.
11. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”, even if it didn’t change your current situation?
Roxxi Dot: My marriage to the Armenian Jason Statham.
12. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?
Roxxi Dot: Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin II.
