DVD/BLU RAY REVIEW: CRISS CROSS

There’s no honour amongst thieves, they say – and when Steve Thompson (Burt Lancaster) starts fooling around with his ex Anna Dundee (Yvonne DeCarlo), he finds her gangster husband Slim Dundee (Dan Duryea) ready to bounce him off the walls a few times. Burt works for an armoured car company, and – thinking quickly, or perhaps this was his plan all along – invites Slim to help him rob his truck. Next thing you know, everyone is double crossing everyone.

Lancaster is at his smouldering best as the guy hot for trot for the wrong woman, whilst Yvonne DeCarlo’s Anna is ice cold as she flim flams between her men, manipulating everyone around her.

The leads make the most of what is a pretty straight-forward story, which ends pretty tragically for all involved. Oh, and eyes peeled in the jazz club scene early in this 1949 film to see Tony Curtis in an uncredited extra role.
