Unfettered, slightly unhinged, post punk rawk with the hooks turned up to eleven, Bulletproof Lovers positively bristle with sweaty, throwback attitude, writing songs that are genetically engineered to please unruly crowds of beer and amphetamine-soaked dwellers of the underground intent on causing mischief in pits where the carpet sticks to your shoes and the walls hide in the dark, ashamed of the sordid things they’ve been forced to witness.
Starting with the in-yer-face ode to a great record collection, I Am My Radio (at least, I think that’s what it’s about… who cares – great track), Shot Through The Heart tears through songs like Not Your Toy with catchy Stooges intensity and arrogance, a hammered piano and an instantaneously crack addictive melody.
Heart Of Stone and Knock Down The Door are Stones-on-quaaludes rockers with surly confidence, while One Last Night evokes Jonathan Richman cult cool, before the pogorofic punk energy of Can’t Let Go.
Take It Or Leave It is another Iggy-fancying rocker, and the Cheap Trick power pop of Radioactive Love is simply irresistible.
Hailing from Spain, Bulletproof Lovers have all the cool and class they’ll ever need, and with a few albums under their belt now, they are an essential addition to any good record collection.
