Friday May 4, 2018 was an example of something that may not be perceived as rock TOTALLY rocking it… 100% to be exact. This blustery Friday night Chris Young and his Losing Sleep tour rolled through Toledo, OH and stopped at Huntington Center. From the minute I entered the venue, I knew it was going to be a special night of music and fun. As the SOLD OUT venue began to fill up, the opener – Aussie newcomer Morgan Evans took his spot center stage with a guitar and a few gadgets that he employed to help replicate a band to support his setlist for the evening. As he rolled through his songs and added percussion, vocals, and even guitar layers, he added a lot of new people to his fan base – including me. The set rolled quickly as he was only allocated about 25 minutes of stage time (be sure to catch him on his just announced 10 In 10 Tour if it stops near you). His showmanship was fun and eclipsed only by his talent. Next up was Kan Brown and from the minute the lights went down until he was off stage, the screaming from females – not just girls, but women of all ages – nearly drowned out the band at times. Brown was constantly moving from side to side, up and down the ramps that framed the rear of the stage behind the band and drummer, and all over in order to make sure all that came to see and hear him could do so. He played several tracks from his recent release and with each song that played before the end of his time in the spotlight, more joined in as he went from hit to hit to hit. This youngster has a future ahead of him, if it is up to the ladies in the audience tonight.
As the stage was converted for the headliner Young, you couldn’t see an empty seat in the place. The fans here tonight may have come for different reasons, but make no mistake they hung out to see Chris – and he didn’t disappoint. Young and his band kicked the evening off with a new track and the show only got better from there. He quickly rolled through a couple of my favorite tracks, “Take You Home” and “Voices”, while I snapped away at my photos. Finally I was able to put my gear away and absorb the rest of the show – which was phenomenal – wait for it… it totally rocked. Seriously, when a performer hits the stage and plays a set full of songs that EVERYBODY in the place knows, that rocks. At no point in time did it seem like there was a mass exodus for a beer or t-shirt, as the audience held their ground and sang along with Chris and his band from song to song. In the middle of the show was a killer version of Keith Whitley’s “When You Say Nothing At All” and was shortly followed up with my favorite Young track “Man I Want To Be.” As his set moved towards the end the energy in the audience was met with excitement by Chris and his band, with guitar solos, drum solos, and an overall fun mood on the stage. I cannot wait until I get the opportunity to see Young again – it was a great show that set the bar for shows to come.

Awesome review of Chris but “When You Say Nothing At All” is a Keith Whitley song, not a Alison Krauss song! She sang it as well but it’s a KW song!
I stand corrected (and so does my review)… thanks for checking me!!!
