Cradle of Filth is a band that may not set the world on fire with record sales, but their fans are loyal and fill the venue, especially when they come through Detroit. This years tour rolled into town with special guest Jinjer and Detroit was ready for an explosive night of extreme rock and roll. The venue was packed by time Jinjer took the stage for their set. As the band, led by frontwoman Tatiana Shmailyuk, kicked their portion of the show off. the energy in the venue grew exponentially with each song the foursome played. The band stayed out of the light for the most part (making this show tough for photographers) but their instruments did a lot of talking so to speak. Tatiana controlled the flow of the show from the front of the stage while Roman Ibramkhalilov and Eugene Abdiukhanov – guitar and bass respectively – flanked her and provided the thunderous sound that supported the vocals that ranged from emotive singing to a growl that defied all odds tonight. Drummer Vlad Ulasevich kept the songs and tempo anchored and kept the set on time. Taking songs from their two releases the band delivered on every level and made a lot of new fans, as evidenced by the number of shirts in the crowd after their set and the sold out status of their reissued debut release.
Once the crowd was warmed up and ready to take the evening to the next level and the headliners stage was set, the anticipation in the crowd reached maximum peaks as the evening careened towards the moment when Cradle of Filth – including namesake frontman Dani Filth – took the stage and bombarded their fans with a setlist culled from their massive catalog, including songs from the latest release Cryptoriana. Shrouded in darkness swirled with blue lights, the band made their way to the stage one at a time and took their respective opening spots – guitarists Richard Shaw and Ashok, bassist Daniel Firth, drummer Martin Skaroupka, and keyboardist Lindsay Schoolcraft came ready to conquer yet another pack venue on their current US tour. With an actual shroud surrounding his face, Dani Filth stood elevated in the rear at center stage and waited for his unveiling and the moment to deliver his musical sermon to the COF masses that packed Saint Andrews. With his face slightly painted and his voice ready to shift between bellows, growls, and screeches, Filth came to take over and the crowd couldn’t get enough. Introducing songs from the latest disc, Filth led his band through a setlist that included new and old, pleasing everyone in attendance this evening. It was interesting to watch the crowd absorb each song, each note, each nuance of the show as if they were taking mental notes to recreate the scene later. The bands legion of fans came for a great show from one of their favorite bands and that is exactly what each of them left the building with that night – and they will relive this moment in time until Dani and his crew march back into Detroit the next time.
