CD REVIEW: BUCKINGHAM McVIE – Buckingham McVie

When is Fleetwood Mac not Fleetwood Mac?

Perhaps it’s when it’s Lindsay Buckingham and Christine McVie recording a duo album – with legendary Mac rhythm section Mick Fleetwood and John McVie on board for the ride, as well.

For whatever reason (Stevie Nicks’ absence, presumably) the principals have decided this isn’t a Fleetwood Mac album, as suck – but gee, it sure sounds like one, from the pure, scintillating pop rock of Sleeping Around The Corner and Feel About You, to the obvious Mac-isms of In My World, Too Far Gone and Lay Down For Free.

Radiant summery melodies abound, with Buckingham and McVie’s vocals sounding as good as ever throughout.

Given the emotionally turbulent interpersonal relationships within the band it’s amazing they still work together at all – and there’s every chance we’ll never see another strictly Fleetwood Mac album. Perhaps, instead, we’ll have to be satisfied with Buckingham McVie, Fleetwood Buckingham, Buckingham Fleetwood McVie, or Buckingham McVie Fleetwood and McVie?

In every permutation the ethereal Nicks is missed, but this is still an enthralling and worthy listen.
