Royal Thunder & Rolling Stone Offer Acoustic Download of “Parsonz Curse”
May 23, 2013, Philadelphia – Royal Thunder, the Atlanta-based band who released their debut album CVI in May of 2012 to rave reviews including a recent accolade from Rolling Stone’s David Fricke (“heavy with the meaty, base elements of early-Seventies British blues”), are offering a free download of an acoustic version of “Parsonz Curse” via Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/parsonz-curse-by-royal-thunder-free-mp3-20130523).
“When we went in to the studio to re-record the tracks from CVI acoustically, we didn’t just want to play the songs how they were played on the record,” explained guitar player Josh Weaver. “We started with basic ideas and structures and then added different instruments so as to shed new light on each piece. We wanted to dig deeper into ‘Parsonz Curse’ and see what else was in it. It was a great experience to do something out of our comfort zone. We have a very strong, creative, positive working relationship with our longtime friend and producer Joey Jones, who owns and runs Aria Recording Studio. The experience challenged us on many different levels. We are excited and honored to be able to release this particular track with Rolling Stone. Thank you to Rolling Stone and thank you to all of our fans for your much-appreciated support! Enjoy!”
The acoustic offering was recorded earlier this year and showcases the diversity and range the female-fronted outfit is capable of. Two other acoustic versions of songs from CVI have been made available previously: Decibel Magazine offered “Whispering World” via their July flexi disc and Pitchfork offered a download of “Black Water Vision” (http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/15230-black-water-vision-acoustic/), which they described as a “Southern gothic murder ballad halfway down the cemetery road” and added “Mlny Parsonz’s voice commands attention whether it’s with a wail or a whisper.”
