Regardless of your opinion of reality television cooking programs (and we’re not fans), this companion book to Channel Nine’s The Great Australian Bake Off is cram-packed with exciting recipes from the show.
From the traditional likes of Wild Mushroom Pies, Oat Biscuits, Battenberg Cake (Pistachio & Raspberry flavoured here) and Gateau Saint-Honore, through to left-of-centre treats such as Bacon Macaroons, Pandan Lamington Cake and Chocolate Miso Brownies.
Unusually, considering this comes from a TV show, the photography is very plain, and in some cases non-existent, instead replaced by pencil sketches of the desired result. It’s a disappointing let down that reeks of taking a cheap and easy option, but it must be said that the recipes do look solid and well-explained, which is the most important thing.
