There’s a Gothic complexity to Eilera’s fourth album of operatic metal, not to mention a distinct European flavour, which extends far beyond her exotically accented vocals.
Born in France and now based in Finland, Eilera’s accent can be a little distracting at first, so unusual is it to Australian ears, but persevere: you’ll be in tune with her in a couple of listens.
Musically, a relentless double kick drum propels the rhythm forwards, while razor wire guitars duel with lush keys, and the odd string flourish and sound effects, and some celtic folk elements further enhance the already lush arrangements.
The overall result is warm and rich, Face Your Demons sounding a little like Within Temptation or Nightwish, but with a uniqueness which is entirely Eilera’s.
