The hardest thing to achieve when you are self-recording every instrument for an album is to make that album sound like it has the give-and-take that a band has, with individual musicians writing musical lines that play off each other, and give the end result a sound of spontaneity and a spark.
Johnny Blood’s first album in almost five years, Argaplast!, manages not only to sound like a band recording together, but it rocks from start to finish across 13 widely diverse tracks.
What’s your poison?
Driving sonic grooves – Out Of District should satisfy those cravings.
Bouncy pop rock – try Empty Notebook.
Hard rock – give Lonely Shout a listen.
Kooky ‘60s flavoured psych – Roky Erickson would be proud of Cosmic Cave.
And lots more besides – there’s something for pretty much everyone on Argaplast! – let’s hope Johnny Blood doesn’t wait another five years for album #3.
