LIVE: JUDAH & THE LION – February 15, 2016 (Knoxville, TN)
Venue: Bijou Theatre
City: Knoxville, TN
Date: February 15, 2016
Review and Photographs by: Jeffrey Everett
It was only a few short months ago that Judah & The Lion came to Knoxville to open for Ben Rector. A lot has changed since then. They released a new album Folk Hop N’ Roll and sold out the Bijou for 2 shows February 14th and 15th as the headliner! To preview their new material, ticket holders were issued a link to stream the new album a few days before the concert. Front man Judah Akers was his usual high energy and engaging self. He explained their new material has components of rock, folk and hip-hop. They like several genres of music and don’t want to feel boxed into one style. Though they call Nashville home, drummer Spencer Cross grew up in Knoxville and the band is clearly a local favorite. The crowd pushed to stage front and sang in unison with almost every song, the only exception being the new material. After their set they returned to play 2 encore songs. This summer they will be touring in support of the new album and will be hitting a few of the major festivals. Always a fun show; don’t miss them if they stop by your town.
