I am never sure what to expect when new material is independently released and the comparisons drawn are to bands like “early Stones, Faces, Black Crowes, Tom Petty and Chuck Berry…”  In the case of The Blessings third release, I can hear where the influence of those bands have affected the sound and some of these references aren’t too far off the mark!  “Ran Out Of Teardrops” opens like a killer Stones blues track, but features cool organ and a killer solo at the bridge that gives the song a little punch and character.  Title track “Shipwrecked” has vocals that take this track in a bit different direction than the previous song, but once the chorus and background vocals kick in, we are back in blues rock territory.  “Born With Horns” opens with a cool riff and some great harmonica, adding depth to the release.  The piano kicks the energy of the track up and the addition of harmonica keeps the mood fun and light.  The vocals are delivered with precision while the rhythm section carries the track from open to close.  “Mississippi Moon” is an uptempo rocker that pulls from the bands influences, but swirls in a different sound and puts the bands stamp on the sound of the EP.  “Come Back Home” is the final track on the release and, while very bluesy in nature, seems a bit too slow and moody for the disc and the bands sound.  While these guys do blues really well, they excel with the upbeat stuff.
