Some have proclaimed that 80’s rock and metal are dead, while others live and die by the songs of an era long past.  Jeff LaBar has finally graced the rock world with a solo album, and believe me – the genre isn’t dead… not even close.  “No Strings” has the familiar chug and slide sound Jeff made famous while recording with Cinderella back in the 80’s and 90’s.  The vocals on the other hand uncover a gem, in that the man can sing.  The song has all the trappings of a killer rock track without going overboard with any of them.  “Asking For A Beating” is a heavier track that doesn’t veer from the course, it simply adds some attitude and power to the groove.  The rhythm section anchors the track while the vocals and guitar duet in a darker groove than most of the other tracks on the disc.  “Muse” is the first of two guitar instrumentals, and it sets the mood for the next track.  “Hello Or Goodbye” is a beautiful track that allows Jeff’s vocals to mesh with an acoustic guitar, while giving the disc a little depth, by rocking while in ballad mode.  “Ode To Page” is the other instrumental on the disc and the guitar work on this track is cool, with layered parts and solos buried in the mix.  “Nightmare On My Street” is another track that builds on the 80’s sound – giving the older sound and vibe an updated feel and grittiness.  The vocals are dark and heavy, while the guitars are furious and full, creating a a cool sound as they mesh.  “One For The Road” takes us back to the sound Jeff helped create, without the nostalgic feel – this is a fresh take on a classic sound and style.  The vocals and guitars come together to create a cool vibe that permeates every second of this five minute track.  Let me say again, the 80’s genre isn’t dead – it has lay dormant – but it has arisen thanks to Jeff LaBar and his guitars!
