Sometimes EP’s can be the best thing to roll across your desk or the worst, depending on the disc, the day, and the artist. The EP from Perth artist Trxye is a really good compilation of five tracks launched last week. “Happy Little Pill” is a moody track that features the lead vocal prominently in the mix, especially during the verse. The song has a great groove without becoming a full blown synth track, avoiding drowning itself in beats. “Touch” is a track that follows the method of the previous song, but adds some synth sounds and effects during the bridges and spaces between the verses and chorus. “Fun” is self-descriptive from the moment the vocals kick in. The rhythm and tempo of the track kicks up during the chorus, but it adds depth to the track and the disc. “Gasoline” starts off different from the other tracks on the disc, in that it relies more on the singer voice than tricks and effects, which drop in without drowning the vocals or detracting from the beauty of the song. “The Fault In Our Stars (MMXIV)” is a recrafting of the artists earlier recording of the track. Again, the vocals are showcased in the mix, which is perfect for a track of this magnitude. The layers and textures created by through synthesizers gives the song and disc another dimension not yet visited on this collection.
