It’s a warm winter day in Winnipeg, Manitoba—by warm, I mean a balmy -2°C. As I’m driving to the Park Theatre, my excitement is steadily building. Tonight, I’m finally seeing Danko Jones live. I still remember the first time I heard one of his songs: “First Date,” nearly 20 years ago. Yeah, I’m dating myself—but the song was catchy, energetic, and pure rock ’n’ roll. I’ve been a fan ever since, yet somehow never had the chance to see Danko Jones in concert. So naturally, I was beyond excited to finally watch him rock out and blow the roof off the Park Theatre. The night kicked off with local band The Leftist, who wasted no time getting the crowd warmed up. Their high-energy, punk-rock grit made them the perfect start to the evening—raw, loud, and unapologetic. Not long after, Danko Jones hit the stage at the sold-out Park Theatre—yes, sold out, on a Wednesday night. As Danko pointed out mid-show, they intentionally chose a Wednesday in Winnipeg over a weekend date so only the real rock ’n’ rollers would show up. Judging by the room, he wasn’t wrong.

Danko Jones came out swinging, opening the set with two bangers from their latest studio album, Leo Rising: “What You Need” and “Diamond in the Rough.” From that moment on, his foot never came off the gas. It was banger after banger, spanning nearly every era of the band’s 12-album career. As Danko proudly noted, Leo Rising received the most love—and rightfully so—with tracks like “I Love It Louder” and “What You Need” hitting especially hard. Other albums got their shine too. Electric Sounds delivered “Get High?,” “Good Time,” and “Guess Who’s Back,” while Wild Cat—arguably the band’s most popular record—brought out “I Gotta Rock,” “You Are My Woman,” and the show-closing anthem “My Little RnR.” Longtime fans were treated to early classics as well, including “Bounce” from the 1999 EP My Love Is Bold, “Lovercall” from Born a Lion, “Forget My Name” from We Sweat Blood, and of course “First Date,” Danko’s biggest song to date, from 2006’s Sleep Is the Enemy. After a full 90-minute set, one thing was clear: this was rock ’n’ roll in its purest form. Raw. Powerful. Energetic. Beautiful. No fluff, no over-the-top production—just a stage, three rock ’n’ rollers, and music doing all the talking. The Park Theatre was absolutely electrified. It felt like a Saturday night on a Wednesday.

Danko’s magnetic stage presence is undeniable—relentless energy, commanding confidence, and an incredible connection with the audience. Bassist JC & Drummer Rick Knox deserve equal praise, matching Danko’s intensity every step of the way. From the first riff to the final note, the band sounded tight, raw, punchy, and heavy, never letting up for a second. Expect good vibes, moshing, and good old-fashioned rock ’n’ roll. Danko Jones doesn’t just put on a show—he reminds you why rock music still matters. 🤘
