You Me At Six Bid Farewell to Perth with an Emotional, High Energy Show
The Astor Theatre in Perth played host to an unforgettable night as You Me At Six closed out their final Australian tour with an electrifying, emotionally charged performance. With Holding Absence as the opening act, the night was a perfect send off for a band that has been a cornerstone of the rock scene for nearly two decades, touring Australia countless times over this time.
Kicking off the night, Holding Absence wasted no time in getting the crowd hyped. Frontman Lucas Woodland is a force to be reckoned with, delivering boundless energy, high jumps, and powerful vocals that had the entire venue moving. The setlist was packed with fan favourites, including the soaring anthem Gravity, which had the crowd in awe, and Afterlife, a moment that saw everyone passionately singing every word. It was clear from the get go that this was the perfect choice of opener, setting the stage for the emotional rollercoaster ahead.
As we eagerly awaited the main act, Lionel Richie’s ‘All Night Long’ filled the venue – a cheeky yet fitting choice for the Final Nights of Six tour. The moment the band walked on stage, the atmosphere erupted. Josh Franceschi, always the charismatic frontman, took centre stage, and without hesitation, they launched into Room to Breathe, a heavy hitting opener that instantly sent shockwaves through the crowd.
From there, the setlist was a dream come true for fans old and new. Save It For The Bedroom, a throwback from their 2008 debut album Take Off Your Colours, ignited pure nostalgia, with longtime fans screaming every lyric. Newer songs like Mixed Emotions saw everyone jumping in time to the catchy beat. The mix of newer hits and deep cuts ensured that every era of the band’s journey was celebrated.
But the most touching moment of the night came before they played Liquid Confidence. Josh Franceschi took a moment to reflect on the band’s journey, sharing a heartfelt story about how You Me At Six first formed. You could feel the emotion in his voice as he spoke about the friendships, the struggles, and the memories they’ve made over the years. As they played an intimate, acoustic version of Liquid Confidence, the entire room was captivated, fans swaying, singing, and soaking in every second of this farewell moment.
Just when we thought the night couldn’t get any better, the encore took things to a whole new level. The band returned to the stage for a powerhouse trio of Bite My Tongue, Underdog, and Reckless, each song sending the crowd into a frenzy of moshing, singing, and pure euphoria.
As the final notes rang out and the band took their final bows, there was an unshakable feeling in the air, this wasn’t just another concert; it was a goodbye to one of our favourite British rock bands. With You Me At Six set to disband after this world tour, every note felt more significant, every lyric more poignant. The connection between the band and their fans was undeniable, and as they played their last songs and stood for a long-standing ovation, there wasn’t a single person in the room not singing their heart out.
You Me At Six have left an indelible mark on the rock scene, and their final show in Perth was a testament to their legacy. If this was truly goodbye, they couldn’t have done it in a more spectacular way.
