The MidFlorida Amphitheater was transformed into a musical time machine on August 20th, 2024, as rock legends REO Speedwagon and contemporary hitmakers Train shared the stage for an unforgettable night of live music. With a setlist spanning decades and genres, the concert delivered a dynamic blend of classic rock nostalgia and modern melodies. As the sun dipped below the horizon, REO Speedwagon took the stage with their iconic sound, immediately transporting the audience back to the golden era of rock. The band, led by the energetic Kevin Cronin, showed that age is no barrier to a stellar performance. Opening with “Don’t Let Him Go,” they set a high-energy tone that had the audience on their feet. The setlist was a perfect blend of their greatest hits and deeper cuts. Classics like “Keep On Loving You” and “Can’t Fight This Feeling” brought enthusiastic sing-alongs from the crowd. The band’s musicianship was top-notch, with guitar solos and soaring vocals reminding everyone why REO Speedwagon has remained a beloved fixture in rock music for decades. Cronin’s voice still carried the emotional weight and power that fans have come to expect, while the band’s rhythm section provided a rock-solid foundation.

Following REO Speedwagon’s exhilarating performance, Train took the stage with their trademark blend of pop-rock and catchy melodies. Lead singer Pat Monahan brought his signature charisma and vocal prowess to the forefront, opening with the infectious “Calling All Angels.” The crowd’s energy surged as the band continued with hits like “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” and “Meet Virginia,” each song eliciting waves of pop nostalgia. Train’s set was not just a parade of hits but also an engaging experience. Monahan interacted with the audience frequently, creating an intimate atmosphere that made everyone feel like part of the show. At one point throughout the evening, fans in the front rows tossed their phones on the stage, only for Monahan to take selfies with the audience during the performance. The standout moment came when Train closed with what most would say is their greatest hit, “Drops of Jupiter” leaving the crowd exhilarated. The pairing of REO Speedwagon and Train proved to be a brilliant choice, offering fans a comprehensive musical journey that spanned from the classic rock of the ’70s and ’80s to the pop-rock of the 2000s. The show was a reminder of the timeless appeal of live music and the way it can bring people together, regardless of the era from which the songs originate. For those who were there, it was an evening to remember—a vibrant, joyous blend of rock’s past and present, proving once again that the power of live music is as strong as ever.
