It’s not often I get to catch the first night of a tour, but a Thursday night in Tampa, FL presneted that opportunity when Taylor Acorn jumped into town to kick off the U.S. leg of her Good Enough tour.  Crowbar Ybor was the spot to be and the night ran like clockwork.  Exactly on time, up-n-comers World’s First Cinema took the stage and on the eve of the release of their expanded EP Palm Reader (Silver Screen Edition).  They featured songs from the collection over the course of their time on stage.  It was obvious some of the headliners fans in attendance were fans of theirs as well and they even picked up some new ones along the musical way.  The duo with drummer in tow ripped through a cool set that drew you in and kept you entertained while waiting for Acorn’s time on stage.

After a set change and some music pumped through the venue’s sound system to keep the crowd pumped up, Taylor Acorn took the stage and proceeded to rip the lid off a show full of killer tracks from her Certified Depressant EP as well as others from her catalog.  Kicking the evening off with “Gray” a newer release from earlier this year, we were given a brief look into what was coming.  Next up was 2022’s energetic “Wishing You Hell” that got me singing along with a venue packed full of Acorn fans.  This was followed up perfectly with a trio of tracks from the previously released EP and the three songs kept the energy up, the mood amazing, and the music fun with “I Think I’m in Love,” “Sticking Around,” and “Coma” blasting through the evening and washing over the crowd.  It was capped perfectly by “Coma” and its attitude filled lyrics.  There were moments of storytelling and bonding with the fans that made it out tonight.  Reaching back to her country days “her words not mine” she played “True Crime” explaining she never got the proper opportunity to play it live and took us back with her.  Two more single releases dotted the musical landscape with “Basement” and the newest track of the evening “Greener” which was dropping the next morning on all DSPs.  One of my favorite tracks (and the instigator of some of her merch) “Everything Sucks” bridged the gap between new and old in her set.  At some point during the evening, Taylor declared her love for everyone in the room for attending her Tampa debut as a performer AND headliner.  Quite the night for the performer.  After another older track – “In My Head” – helped steer the set toward the home stretch before EP title track “Certified Depressant,” tour namesake “Good Enough” and another of my personal favorites “Psycho” closed out the set.  With a few minutes to spare, we got treated to an encore of “Shapeshifting” before being thanked once again before Acorn and her band left the stage.  An amazing night full of great music, energy, and fun was had by all and I can only hope my schedule lines up against the tour dates so I can check out her live show once again.
