I do not normally find myself drawn to hardcore, but when a band strips things back and releases acoustic versions of their tracks as well as a cover, I will at least take it for a spin and see what happens.  The latest release from Stick To Your Guns is one such release and I happen to dig what they have done here.  Disc opener “Amber” is a simple track that has lyrical twists and turns that are emotionally delivered by Jesse Barnett with precision.  The sound and overall vibe of the chorus is contagious and helps carry you through to the short bridge that features some cool nuance playing.  “Nobody” is a song that benefits from the twin guitar sound of Chris Rawson and Josh James underneath the vocals.  The layered vocal on the chorus adds an almost eerie vibe to the song that carries throughout the track.  “Forgiveness of Self” takes on a slightly different vibe, courtesy of Barnett’s lead vocal that intensifies as the chorus hits.  The song has a mesmerizing sound woven into it that grabs your attention and keeps you listening all the way through.  Closer “Take On Me” in an interesting twist on the 80’s classic from A-ha that allows the original to shine through, but with a Stick To Your Guns attitude tossed in and their own stamp placed squarely on top.  This is a cool cover that is a total left turn for the collection, but a welcome addition to the EP’s overall sound and playthrough.
