Rock and roll new comers Dirty Honey are out on their Rolling 7s tour and the show landed at Detroit’s Saint Andrews Hall.  The packed venue was a change from the smaller Shelter that sold out and prompted the move.  This show was a mere two days after a sold out show at The Machine Shop in Flint, MI… just 65 miles away.  These guys are packing venues across the country.  After a set from The Amazons, the stage was quickly converted for the headliners and the band could not take the stage soon enough for the enthusiastic audience.  The band kicked the evening off with “Scars” and the venue was filled with the magical sound of cool rock and roll that got your foot tapping and your head lightly banging.  The rock was mainstream with a classic vibe woven through it.  Next up was “Break You” and the guitar work on this track was awesome, as was the rhythm section’s bottom end that anchored the song perfectly.  A new personal favorite from the band was next when the guys launched into “Fire Away.”  Corey Coverstone’s drumming from behind the stage provided teh perfect cadence for the track while Marc LaBelle’s vocals were spot on and his control of both the stage and the show’s flow demonstrated a maturity for the young frontman.  The band featured two new tracks in the set, playing “The Wire” and “Tied Up.”  THe band has made a habit on this run of throwing in a great cover of Aerosmith’s “Last Child,” and tonight was no different.  A highlight for guitarists everywhere was John Notto’s solo that dotted the musical landscape.  Not to be outdone, bassist Justin Smolian showed his 4-string skills as well as the set made its way toward the end of the evening.  Singer LaBelle impressed me from song to song, but drove the evening home as he took us all out with his vocals on my favorite Dirty Honey track and set closer “Rolling 7s.”  I cannot wait to check out these guys again – and hopefully soon!
