ORBITAL BOUND FOR PERTH FESTIVAL

British electronic music giants Orbital will touch down as the first act announced for Perth Festival 2019’s sizzling summer of big beats and good times at Chevron Gardens.

The celebrated techno pioneers head back to Australia after a long hiatus to turn our outdoor music venue at Elizabeth Quay into party central on Saturday 2 March to celebrate the closing weekend of the Festival.

Mashing cosmic ambience with bouncy, turbulent beats and a spectacular light show, Orbital are testament to the enduring strength of old-school, rave-friendly electronic music.

Their tour will celebrate 30 years since the Hartnoll brothers, Paul and Phil, first hit the decks as Orbital in 1989 in Sevenoaks, Kent. They took their name from the M25 orbital motorway that connected the early acid house party networks across Greater London’s south east.

Orbital’s early albums helped shape the sound of dance music in the early 90s but their spectacular live shows set the bar for epic festival experiences.

Since reuniting last year, the dance duo have announced they’re back for good – with their first new music in five years and an upgrade of the legendary live show that transformed festivals across the world.

Their new album Monsters Exist is a more classically structured Orbital album than their previous release Wonky. Taking their signature sound forward into a new and fascinating phase, it draws inspiration from the international political landscape all the way back from Paul and Phil’s pre-rave squat-punk roots right up to the volatile tensions and erratic rhetoric of today.

The pioneering duo thrive where punk meets acid-tinged house. With techno precision riding their slick beats, Orbital espouse jubilant glo-stick goodness, guaranteeing stadium stomp and melodic hooks with glitchy nuances.

The Hartnolls have rebuilt one of electronic music’s best-loved partnerships. Time has refreshed Orbital creatively and these leading figures of dance music are bringing their groundbreaking live show back to Australia. EDM enthusiasts, this is a show not to be missed!

‘One of the most beloved acts of the first rave era.’ Pitchfork

‘The most emotionally and aesthetically maximalist of electronic musicians.’ The Quietus
