The 69 Eyes current tour brought them to The Machine Shop for the first time ever and they did not disappoint the crowd that showed up to rock with them. After a rousing set from Wednesday 13, the set changeover took place quickly like clockwork and soon the band took their respective places on stage. The band kicked off the set with recent single “Two Horns Up” and delivered the song perfectly, even without the added vocals of Dani Filth. The song set the bar for the rest of the show and they matched the intensity and rock quotient through out the set. Relying more on the music than the lights and any pyro, the seventeen song set flowed perfectly from song to song. The bands most recent release, West End, was well represented in the setlist with the previously mentioned opener, “Black Orchid,” “Hell Has No Mercy,” “Cheyenna,” and “27 & Done.” With a huge catalog that dates back to 1992, the band mixed up the evening digging back as far as 1999’s Wasting Dawn which was represented by the title track. The self-proclaimed Helsinki Vampires returned to the US this year after a return to US stages last year after a 10-year touring drought in the States and even longer in Michigan. NOt having the chance to witness a lot of their music live, we were treated to our favorites. Two albums that I love going back to time and time again – 2000’s Blessed Be and 2004’s Devils – are also fan favorites that lent tracks for the set. The Machine Shop crowd ate up “The Chair,” “Brandon Lee,” and “Framed In Blood” (which kicked off the encore) all from the 2000 release. The one-two-three punch of “Framed In Blood,” “Dance D’Amour,” and 2004’s “Lost Boys” was a killer end to the set and evening. If you get the chance, I recommend grabbing some of your rocker friends and some tickets for this tour.
