Dool is a new band that crossed my email lately, and after checking out the single, I had to write up the EP, as this is a very contagious track / disc without being easily classified into any specific genre of rock.  Opening track “Love Like Blood” is an amazing version of the Killing Joke track – this is so amazing, that I would rather (and most likely will) listen to this version every time over the original.  The vocals of Ryanne van Dorst are mesmerizing and hook you from the opening lyric.  The blend of guitars from Reinier Vermeulen and Nick Polak swirl beautifully in the mix and enhance the bottom end anchored by drummer Micha Haring and bassist JB Van Der Wal.  Next up are two live tracks recorded at Rock Hard Festival – “She Goat” and “In Her Darkest Hour.”  These are live adaptations of songs from their first disc Here Now, There Then.  While live recordings, the songs have almost no live sound or crowd noise during the actual songs, making these great renditions – as if played live in the studio with no overdubs or layers.  The music really captures a rock sound without sounding overdone, rehashed, or like the band is trying too hard to sound like any of their peers or contemporaries.  These guys rock the material and may be my favorite new band of 2019.  The vocals are spot on, especially when the background vocals kick in to support Ryanne’s lead vocal.  This three track single / EP will be in constant rotation for some time to come… until my copy of Here Now, There Then arrives anyway.
