Dorothy first hit my musical radar last year when I caught her opening for Greta Van Fleet.  Her vocals are amazing, the songs structured perfectly and catchy as hell, and her band is tight.  With two CDs and an EP worth of material, Dorothy and her band rolled through Detroit of her Freedom Tour and delivered a blistering set to a SOLD OUT house at Saint Andrews.  After hitting the stage and purging bad juju with Sage, Dorothy and her band – featuring Nick Perri on lead guitar – ripped into “Naked Eye” and we were off and running.  Her vocals were spot on and as always a pleasure to listen to while the band played the song with precision.  Next up was a rousing rendition of “Raise Hell” that kept me moving to and fro, even in the photo pit – this is one of my favorite tracks on her debut CD.  She dotted the musical landscape with a couple other tracks – “Ain’t Our Time to Die” and “Dark Nights” before delivering not only one of my favorite songs on her latest release 28 Days In The Valley, but one of the strongest performances of the evening, in my opinion, when they played “Pretty When You’re High.”  The audience ate up song after song, with Dorothy and crew playing other powerful tracks such as “Medicine Man” and “Philadelphia” punching the crowd with killer riffs and licks as well as powerhouse vocals that reverberated through the night and the venue.  Dorothy dropped a couple F bombs near the end of the set when she belted out “Flawless” and tour namesake “Freedom” keeping the energy up and the crowd engaged.  Closing out the night, “Shelter” seemed to be the perfect bookend for the evenings performance and was sure to send the crowd into the night with a smile on their face and a song on their lips.
