This was my first Lindsey Stirling concert and I went in with knowing a bit of her background and that she played the violin. We sprung for one of the VIP tickets which included a question and answer session as well as two songs with her bandmates. Lindsey was very charismatic and engaging with the group. She was humble and very open with her conversation about her journey. She left to get ready for the show as the group made it back to the venue. She took the stage after Evanescence to roaring crowd. From this point on the truly amazing spectacle began. Playing the violin is obviously difficult in and of itself, but to combine it with performance dance left me awestruck. Her choreographed dance moves and theme for each song was more like a ballet and opera blended with hip-hop and pop. Seeing her play the violin during the frenetic dance routines was simply amazing. I said to myself throughout the concert, how does she do that? Complementing each song was the stage set as well as a full orchestra. It was almost like a music video playing out in a live performance. During her song “Take Flight” she was elevated on a platform to the top of the stage, probably around 30 feet as the video monitors behind projected sailing through clouds. Between several songs she told us a bit about herself and the evolution from YouTube, America’s Got Talent, to playing small venues and sometimes sleeping on her car. Her message was with hard work and determination you can achieve your dreams. Don’t let others hold you back, keep believing and trying your best. She played one of her YouTube videos she made when she was 16, lip synching and dancing to Evanescence’s “Bring Me to Life.” How appropriate to be on tour with them 15 years later and to have Amy Lee come out and sing “Shatter Me” during her set. Lindsey was inspirational in her message and truly spectacular in her performance. Her show can be enjoyed across all music genres and was one of the best live performances I have seen. I would highly recommend catching her show if she’s in town near you!
