Lauren Mayberry of CHRVCHES got straight to the point as soon as she hit the stage on The Mil venue of the Cannery Hall in Nashville, TN. This was the first solo tour trip through Nashville, and the fans were ready for it. So many amazing songs to choose from. The room was at capacity and highly enthused for the evening. The entire set was energetic and even though it was a smallish stage they never missed a beat and just flowed around the space. She filled the time in between numbers giving small humorous stories about the process of putting her album together and the long process to finally be able to get on tour with it. You can tell this was a project that came from a very special and passionate place in her heart. Slightly different from the work people would expect from her other band but highly enjoyable and an exceptionally enjoyable performance. Her blisteringly stellar cover of The Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” was by far a great addition to the rest of her album performance. So much so that I would love to see that released as a track for everyone to be able to enjoy later on. She teased about possibilities of her band coming off of hiatus and getting back into the studio for another album as well. The crowd was almost a sold out show filled with people of all ages and not a sad face in the room when the show concluded. At the end of the performance she got up on the front of the stage and took a bow and graciously thanked everyone for their support over the years and for her solo album / tour. She ultimately played a 13 song set; which is a great sign of a band that absolutely loves what they do.
Her set was only a little over an hour long, but I definitely could have stayed for another hour and the evening was already stretching thin and overall the show was already packed to the gills with great music. Being a massive CHVRCHES fan I couldn’t miss the opportunity to catch Lauren on her solo tour. She absolutely did not disappoint. There are only a few dates left on this tour for her and if she is coming to a city nearby I would highly recommend going and supporting her on her first solo album tour. I will always make it a point to catch her the next time she goes on a solo tour if I’m able.
Setlist: Crocodile Tears – Change Shapes – Mantra – Shame – Anywhere but Dancing – Punch Drunk – Something in the Air – Are You Awake? – Bitter Sweet Symphony – A Work of Fiction – Sorry, Etc – Oh, Mother – Sunday Best
