Grab your board and hit the half-pipe for this quiet-loud-quiet ‘90s-reminiscent EP from Melbourne trio Buzz & the Pickups.
It’s a fun ride, dude – tubular, even, with a strong whiff of Dinosaur Jr (surely a great thing for the many J Mascis-ites out there) especially on opening track Boo(s)t.
Jangly guitar gives way to fuzzed out Sonic Youth riffs, lyrics are feel of teen student angst, and it’s a nice place for these guys to start.
Next stop: develop their individuality a little more, work on the promise easily seen in their songwriting, and checking in with them for their next release should be even more of a, errr, buzz.
Some other stuff you might dig
