“Train wreck blues” they call it in their press release, and it’s a fitting summary of their raucous mix of slave chants, bad-ass harp-driven blues, frenetic boogie and ragged charm, all tempered by a dark, hungover edge as if ole skullface himself was perched overlooking their every move.

Crying Bride is all brooding hillbilly blues menace drenched in down-tuned guitars and wailing harmonica, while My Deliverance has impressively ominous grind and heft. Den Buster is wailin’, stompin’, growlin’ music to wrestle bears to, and EP closer Dark Pony’s acoustic blues provide scant relief to the good time dark mood prevalent throughout.

Sadly Dirtwater Bloom are currently on hiatus, as of February 2018, so it’s more important than ever that this EP remains as testament to their powers.
