Dave Graney announces Perth live dates and book launch
Off the back of a series of successful dates across Europe and the East Coast of Australia in the latter half of 2017, Dave Graney and his band the mistLY will be in Perth on 8, 9 and 10 December for a series of shows that will give fans unprecedented access to this iconic Aussie performer and author.
Dave Graney and drummer Clare Moore played with the Moodists from 1978 to 1986, followed by the White Buffaloes/Coral Snakes from 1987-1997. Then came the Royal Dave Graney Show and Lurid Yellow Mist. Now, dave graney and the mistLY, which sees them joined by Stuart Perera (guitar since 1998) and Stu Thomas (bass since 2004).
Graney and Moore have been involved in roughly 30 album releases over their career. Graney is the author of two books and has a third – WORKSHY- released in October 2017. They have also composed music for films and television and Graney hosts a weekly radio show on Melbourne’s RRR.
Releasing a single each month since February 2016, their 2017 album is a collection called LET’S GET TIGHT.
2017 has seen shows by Dave Graney and the Coral Snakes, Dave Graney and Clare Moore and Dave Graney and the mistLY. Every time they go out to play and in whatever combination – IT’S WHAT THEY REALLY DO! Great songs, sly grooves, tangy guitar jams.
Friday 8 December
On Friday 8 December, Graney plays solo and acoustic at the Backlot Theatre. This intimate 50-seat venue will give Graney’s uber fans close up access to the artist as he plays songs from his extensive back catalogue and current releases, and talks about his craft and the stories behind the songs in conversation with Around The Sound’s Bob Gordon.
This is a unique experience that brings the audience closer than ever to the artist and provides those lucky enough to secure a seat with an opportunity to meet Graney after the show in the venue’s bar.
Saturday 9 December
On Saturday 9 December, Dave Graney and the mistLY take the stage at Fremantle’s Fly By Night Musician’s Club. Having toured consistently across the East Coast of Australia and Europe during the second half of 2017, Graney and his long-time musical collaborators, Clare Moore and Stu Thomas, are coming to Perth ready to lay down a cavalcade of Graney’s greatest songs.
This is a rare opportunity to see Graney stretch out with his band and give life to his catalogue of hits with their subversively slinky grooves and observations on Aussie hipdom. Part sly wit, part social observer and always musically on point, Dave Graney and the mistLY are firmly ensconced as part of Australia’s musical fabric and as current and relevant as ever.
Special guest, Perth’s Em Burrows (with full band), get the night started with their psychedelic pop grooves.
Sunday 10 December
On Sunday 10 December, Dave Graney will launch his latest book, WORKSHY, in conversation with Around The Sound’s Bob Gordon at the Rosemount Hotel’s Bar 459.
Legendary Australian showman Dave Graney returns to the page and reveals the lengths he has gone to avoid anything that really feels like work. In his inimitable style, Graney veers from a feckless childhood in blue-collar South Australia, to the punk rock scene of 1980’s London, and beer-soaked nights touring Australia where he worked very hard at not working at all.
But in slacking off, Graney became one of the hardest working musicians in the industry, constantly evolving, reinventing, staying one step ahead of everyone even himself.
WORKSHY is half written by Dave Graney the consummate and tireless performer, and half-written by Dave Graney the bludge. The magic is that you’re never sure which is which.
Get the lowdown on the slacker life from Dave Graney, the consummate Aussie performer and author.
He will be available to meet and greet guests, sign copies of his book and take selfies so punters can prove just how hip they are.
