There are bands that are always fun live and leave you wanting more… In This Moment is one of those bands.  Each time I see them, I leave very happy… it is like visiting old friends.  But each visit leaves me missing something – songs from their older releases… a longer setlist… something.  The bands latest trek labeled the Half God, Half Devil tour, has had them running around the country all summer promoting the bands latest disc Ritual.  With more killer tracks to add to their set, there are inevitably songs that have to fall off, but the band has constructed a solid set for their stage time. From the moment the lights went out, the audience was ready for the musical journey that was looming.  This show was bittersweet for me personally as I was visiting Vegas for a long birthday weekend and this show was the culmination of the trip.  Once the kabuki dropped and the band hit the stage one at a time, we were off and running… or so we thought.  The band ripped the night open with “Blood” and they were on fire… from Maria Brinks searing vocals to the twin guitar attack of Chris Howorth and Randy Weitzel to the perfectly anchored bottom end compliments of bassist Travis Johnson and drummer Kent Diimmel.  As the band tore into the first new track of the evening, it became obvious there were some technical issues and the song came to a halt while they rebooted Brinks mic.  The crowd was treated to an extended version of “River Of Fire” that rocked from start to finish… both times.  Next up was another track from the bands Blood release – Adrenalize.  This song featured the third costume change in as many songs from Brink while the band kept up with their musical prowess.  Tonight’s setlist of 11 tracks featured six new songs, with the trio of “Lay Your Gun Down,” “Black Wedding” which is a even more powerful live than it is on the new record, and a cover of the Phil Collin’s classic “In the Air Tonight” tossed into the mix.  While the band is infamous for allowing photographers the opportunity to shoot the whole show, sometimes I find it necessary to put the camera down and just enjoy the show… which is what I did after I felt I had what I needed.  The set wound down with the fun “Sick Like Me” and another new track, “Oh Lord.”  Without much prompting, the band came back for their encore and put the proverbial cherry on top with a phenomenal version of “Whore” that brought the house down.  I am not sure what the next show at Brooklyn Bowl was, but the next performer had a rather high bar to reach after this show.
