More bands are relying on downloads and iTunes, but some bands write and play so well, I don’t necessarily think they need to. Abel is one of those bands. Having never heard of them, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but these tunes are solid and offer a great listen to anyone willing to take a chance.
Forget for a minute that these guys proudly wear the Christian Rock tag. The music ain’t from your momma’s church and you won’t find these lyrics in any hymnal… but perhaps you should. The ten tracks presented here run the gambit of rockers, ballads, and everything in between. Lead vocalist Kevin Kneifel really impresses here with his range and dynamics.
“Fire Walk With Me” is the lead single, and one hell of a way to lead off! This track has soul searching lyrics and makes one ponder their situation. Most of the songs on this release are like this. I am also a big fan of the next track, “An Ultimatum.” The vocals throughout the disc are emotional and evoking. The musicianship is very solid and plays well with the stories woven by the lyrics.
Do yourself the favor and give them a listen – you might just be as impressed as I am.
