The coolest thing about music today is the vibrant cross-pollination between different styles and genres.

Here’s Charlie Bonnet III, ostensibly a country cat since the late 2000’s, all long hair, acoustic guitar and southern drawl, with this great new EP which successfully straddles rock and country far more authentically than Bret Michaels could even dream of doing.

It probably helps that CBIII has hooked up with legendary sleaze rocker Tracii Guns, who contributes Hammond B3, co-produces and mixed and mastered this gem.

Restless And Reckless would have been a hair metal smash in the late ‘80s – it’s a great, tight, riffy, cymbal smashing rocker with Steve Earle-like outlaw attitude to spare.

Waiting On Time is another high energy showcase of CBIII’s knack with a heartfelt lyric, and Hometown Heroes burrows further down the country route with a slow blues groove and a whiskey rasp in an acerbic tale about small town jock arseholes.

In these enlightened days most people are beyond the pettiness of music being “too rock” for country audiences, or “too country” for rockers. CBIII straddles both camps perfectly.
