A press release shot across my email and I clicked on the video link. I really enjoyed the video and song, so hunted down a copy of the disc to check it out. I have to say, either my musical taste is getting diverse or I am slowing down in my old age. I know, it has to be the diverse taste!! Singer/songwriter Tristan Prettyman has really pulled out the stops on this disc.
From the opening moments of disc starter “Say Anything” to “I Was Gonna Marry You,” the song structure is evident and the lyrics are heartfelt and tell quite a story. Next up is the song that hooked me, “My Oh My.” This funky track has a killer beat and the musicians work it well on this track all while Ms. Prettyman sings her butt off on this track. The fun continues a couple tracks later on “Quit You.” I love the use of acoustic on this disc to highlight the vocals, while setting a beautiful backdrop.
Move fun is to be had on “Bad Drug” and one of my favorites, “When You Come Down.” Each song seems to be another piece of love gone wrong being righted. This is the most fun breakup album I have ever heard. “Second Chance” is another great tune – probably one of the best on this disc – the groove is fun and the music shines on this track. Wait around for the finale, bonus track “The Rebound.” I think anyone who ever had or wanted a rebound will dig this one.
Well done Tristan – you made a new fan, even if it came at the expense of a bad relationship.
