Professor Louie – whose boogie woogie blues keys and vocals make this album so vibrant – and the Crowmatix are the sort of old school blues band who’ll play anywhere – in their own words, “the high class joints… the low class joints, and even… the honkey tonks.”
Untainted by rock or pop or commercial considerations, theirs is a pure blues, making for some easy listening as they swing through this collection of covers and originals.
Full of amiable charm, they’re at their most engaging on the afore-quoted I’m Gonna Play The Honkey Tonks, Elmore James’ Fine Little Mama, B B King’s Confessin’ The Blues, Jimmy Reed’s Bright Lights, Big City, and Jimmy Rogers’ That’s Alright, whilst instrumentals Blues & Good News and Blues For Buckwheat let the band concentrate on having a damn fine time.
Some other stuff you might dig
