CD REVIEW: SHE’S THE DRIVER – The Gone Club

She’s The Driver’s fuzzrock-with-punk-attitude high-octane post-grunge wall of melodic noise is, at first listen, a seductively trance-like auditory experience. Belligerant trance, I hasten to add – like a Sonic Youth-meets-shoegaze psych trip.

Successive listens reveal the profoundly melodic nature of their music: Take You Under and Falling Leaves have a Gyroscope edge to them; Joel Was Late resembles a hypnotic, punk Oasis; the title track will likely appeal to fans of The Vines; Snow White is pure power pop; Heal manages to channel both The Beatles and Nirvana, starting acoustically then building up.

The trio are in fine form on The Gone Club, blazing an individualistic trail that owes zero to prevailing trends, just making the best music they know how for their fans. You can’t ask fairer than that.
