According to a recent press release: “Today, Washington alternative pop rock outfit Night Argent announced the release of their highly anticipated sophomore EP, The Fear, set for July 14, 2017 with Outerloop Records. The Fear EP was written and produced by Night Argent (Rainmaker Studios), co-written and produced in part by John Feldmann (Neon Trees, Biffy Clyro, 5 Seconds of Summer) and Steven Solomon, and mixed/mastered by Brook Floyd (Rainmaker Studios). The dynamic sophomore release contains 6 infectious tracks that showcase the band’s diverse, powerful, and anthemic sound which will appeal to fans of arena-friendly alternative rock. With this announcement, the band partnered with Paste Magazine to unveil the the EP’s lead single, “Dreamcatcher,” which was co-written by Night Argent and John Feldmann.” We get singer Chase Manhattan  to answer our 10 Quick Ones about the new release, their influences, and more…

1. Tell us a little about your latest release.  What might a fan or listener not grab the first or second time they listen through?  Are there any hidden nuggets the band put in the material or that only diehard fans might find?

Probably some of our musical influences behind the record. We have a pretty varying taste in music individually. So though they might never guess it, some of those inspirations range from Brian Mcknight, Bruno Mars, and Seven Lions to Hanson, Metallica, and Avenged Sevenfold.

2. What got you into music, and can you tell us about the moment you realized you wanted to be a musician?

We all fell in love with music at an early age, and were all pretty heavily involved in the music programs at our school. For me, the community I found in music was the first time I ever remember feeling truly accepted. Since then, music has been an escape from everyday life, and an outlet to express my struggles and desires.

3. Who would be your main five musical influences?

As I said prior, we all have a very wide range of influences as individuals, but as a band the musicians and bands we’ve looked up to include Muse, Mutemath, Imagine Dragons, Coldplay, and U2.

4. If you could call in any one collaborator to do a song with, who would it be?

That’s a hard one, with so many artists we’d love to work with. I think one of the coolest people to work with would be Brian Eno, he’s not a household name outside of the music industry, but his production and ear has helped sculpt some of the most impactful records of the past few decades.

5. How would you describe your music to someone who’d never listened to you before?

One of the ways we like to describe our music is Electro-organic Anthemic Rock, but it’s always more interesting for us to hear how other people hearing our music for the first time describe it to us. We’ll have people describe it to us in very different ways, and it doesn’t always sound like they’re necessarily talking about the same band, but people tend to hear things differently, and it’s more exciting for us to see how everybody perceives us on their own, rather than telling them how we want them to perceive us.

6. What’s the best thing about being a musician?

The best part about being in the band would have to be when we’re on the road, seeing new places and playing music for new people. Some of our most memorable moments are the stops on tour between shows. Whether it’s long boarding through a new city, or hiking a trail we’ve never been on, getting a chance to explore new places is definitely a highlight.

7. When the band are all hanging out together, who cooks; who gets the drinks in; and who is first to crack out the acoustic guitars for a singalong?

We all take turns with food for the most part, but it usually involved ordering, none of us do much cooking. Shane is our in house bartender, he takes care of the drinks most of the time. Evan and Zac are usually the ones to bust out the acoustic guitar to get people singing. Luckily we all get along really well, and when we hang out it comes easy, it’s never forced.

8. If you weren’t a musician, what would be your dream job?

I’d love to work on movies as a DP or lighting designer, I’ve always been interested in film, and doing our own music videos for the band has always been something I’ve thoroughly enjoyed, and it’s given me a chance to get my feet wet behind a camera.

9. Looking back over your career, is there a single moment or situation you feel was a misstep or you would like to have a “do over”?

We’ve always been of the mind set that the journey is what makes us who we are, though there have probably been many occasions where we didn’t always make the best decision, there’s not one I look back on and wish for a “do over.” We continue to learn and to grow, and without the mistakes we’ve made, we’d probably have nothing left to write about.

10. If you could magically go back in time and be a part of the recording sessions for any one record in history, which would you choose – and what does that record mean to you?

For me, that would have to be Coldplay’s A Rush Of Blood To The Head live recording. I’ve watched and listened to that recording over and over again. The first time I saw it, I was going through a time where I was trying to figure out what I was going to do with my life, I had always loved music and knew I would always play music, but I didn’t see a career in it. After watching that recording, I knew I couldn’t do anything else.
