Every once in a while a band pops out of no where and really impresses me.  The fact that this latest band is not your typical band of rockers makes it even more of a surprise.  Miggs’ latest offering, 15th & Hope, is a solid album through and through.  No flashy balls out loud guitars, thunderous drums, or screaming-screeching lead vocals.

Disc opener “Pretty” nicely mixes soothing vocals and solid playing from the band.  The musicianship presented on this track get me excited to hear more.  This disc has a melancholy feel to it without being depressing or down in any sense of the word.  The songs are very introspective and emotional, like “Stars,” “Hole,” and “Home.”  One of the better tracks is the upbeat “Heart Full Of Doubt.”  Once this kicked in, I wasn’t sure if I was in church or a club.  The upbeat rhythm is fun and energizing, but the organ interjected in the opening keeps you guessing.

“Everyone But Me” keeps the cool vibe alive from “Heart Full Of Doubt.”  This track gives you that toe tapping desire, no matter what you are doing while you listen to it.  There are more tracks to make you reflect, like the “On Your Own Side” and “The Way It Is.”  The latter, which is also the disc closer, has the life gone wrong story for lyrics, but the musicianship and groove created make it an enjoyable track.  Two more of my favorite tracks are near the end of the disc.  I love the fun sound and energy of “Hand Over Your Heart.”  The band creates a cool feeling in the track here with their instruments.  “Fairytales And Miracles” has that same quality and helped drive this disc through some of the slower tempo tracks.  Do yourself a favor and check these guys out.  If you want your music well written, well played, and not relying on volume and shock, this is one of the better one to drop this year.
