CAPITOL RECORDS SIGNS L.A. DUO CAPITAL CITIES
December 12, 2012 — New York, NY — Capitol Records is pleased to announce that it has signed Los Angeles-based duo Capital Cities to its roster and will release their self-titled EP digitally December 18th.
The brainchild of Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, two jingle writers who met on Craigslist, Capital Cities has already created significant buzz in the blogospere with their first single “Safe and Sound,” which has been featured on The CW’s 90210, in promotional campaigns for HBO and Smart Car, and more than half a dozen other spots and has significant early airplay on multiple radio stations where it is currently charting on alternative radio.
Early praise for the Capital Cities EP:
“A sonic head rush. An easy, breezy, beautiful slice of effervescent electro-pop that absolutely kills it.” — Neon Gold
“Consider yourself warned, listening to Capital Cities is habit-forming.” — Status magazine
“Bound to make your dance-infused taste buds sizzle. The music swarms with outside-of-the-box tendencies, jam-packed full of life, energy and unusual yet fantastic sounds.” — Clixie
The video for “Safe and Sound,” in which Merchant and Simonian encounter Belgian attack dogs, exotic dancers and benevolent Llamas, has already racked up (along with an alternate version of the video) more than 1 million views on YouTube. Directed and conceived by Swedish director Jimmy Ahlander (Royksopp’s “Tricky Two”), the video was shot on location at the Zorthian Ranch — a bizarre world filled with junkyard art structures, tucked away at the foothills of the Angeles Crest Forest. The tracklisting for the Capital Cities EP is as follows: “Safe and Sound”, “Patience Gets Us Nowhere Fast”, “I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo”, “Center Stage” and “Love Away”.
