Originally released in 2000, Tangled In Dream was Australian prog metal band Vanishing Point’s second album, and was released to much critical and fan acclaim worldwide.
Now, seventeen years later, they have reissued Tangled In Dream, complete with a bonus disc.
The original album sounds as great as it always did, full of epic, soaring melodies and impressive guitar and keyboard interplay – but you should know this already, since you undoubtedly have a copy of Tangled In Dream in your collection.
The really interesting stuff is on Disc 2, starting with a newly recorded version of Samsara, the second track on the disc, here titled Samsara II. Pink Floyd’s On The Turning Away was included as a bonus on some versions of the original album, and is still incredible. It’s joined here by another great cover, of Journey’s Separate Ways.
Two Japanese bonus tracks are next – The Endless Road and Veil Of Deceit, and the bonus disc is rounded out with a five-track unplugged radio broadcast recording from PBS FM from 2003, featuring tracks from debut album In Thought and Tangled In Dream. This short set proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that these songs are grandiose and epic, even without the crushingly heavy guitars.
This reissue is as classy as everything Vanishing Point do: from artwork to songwriting and musicianship, they really are the full deal.
