Like millions before me, Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus & the entire Peanuts gang changed my life with laughter, wisdom, insight and warmth at their antics and escapades, insecurities and triumphs.

Such was Charles M Schulz’s deft touch that although Peanuts was ‘just’ a comic strip, there are few – if any – greater examples of an ongoing work of fiction that so adroitly displayed the humanity of our race.

Frankly, the sooner Peanuts becomes required reading for the Primary School curriculum, the better. Not only does its humour appeal to all ages, its messages of honour, truth, friendship, loyalty – as well as uncertainty about the future – are fine qualities rarely instilled in youth today.

Volume 26 is the final instalment in this epic series, collecting one-offs and random stories and pictures, rather than the regular comic strips of previous volumes, which more or less ran chronologically. As such, it’s one more for collectors and completists, but serves as a fitting end to a magnificently thorough collection of Schulz’s work.
