Anthony Browne re-imagined Lewis Carroll’s wonderful classic Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland in 1988, and Walker books put out this delightful 150th anniversary edition in the U.K. in 2015. It’s finally got an Australian release, for local kids and adults alike to relive Alice’s gloriously madcap adventure through Wonderland.
Browne’s paintings are delightfully retro, especially when compared to the myriad of star-studded movie versions of the story, making this a lovely place to go back to the original text and see exactly why this trippy story was such an imagination-pushing classic.
All our favourites are present, of course: The White Rabbit, The Mad Hatter, The Queen of Hearts, The Cheshire Cat, and Browne has done an admirable job of taking his inspiration only from the original text, and not the many more modern interpretations.
A children’s classic, and one which deserves to be shared by every parent with their kids.
