Americana rockers Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors played to another sellout crowd at the Bijou Theater. Drew is a native Tennessean and still lives in Nashville. His wife Ellie is also a band member, providing vocals and guitar. Due to family commitments, Drew said her performance in Knoxville is just one of three appearances she will have during the current tour.  Nathan Duggar (guitar,keys), Rich Brinsfield (bass), and Jonathan (drums)  complete the group. Their portfolio includes 6 studio albums, 2 live releases and a Christmas album.  The most recent, Medicine, just hit the shelves January 27, 2015 and is currently 12th on Billboard’s rock album chart.  The night began around 8 PM with Holly Williams getting things started. The crowd arrived early and every seat was full during her spirited performance. Drew and company took the stage around 9 PM to a hearty welcome. Drew’s soulful voice and Ellie’s supporting vocals harmonized perfectly.  Guitars and bass were primarily acoustic which worked great in the small theater. The band seemed to enjoy themselves as much as the crowd during the evening. Drew took pause mid concert to bring a local couple on stage. On Valentine’s weekend, a proposal took place, and the answer was yes! Their set included many from the new release, which he said was recorded in just a 9 days. Perhaps most special was Drew’s solo performance of Tennessee in which the entire audience sang in unison.  After about 90 minutes, they walked off stage only a second, then returned to play 2 encores. The crowd remained on its feet in appreciation. Drew Holcombe and the Neighbors are set to return to the Bijou tomorrow night. That concert is also sold out! The band is certainly on the rise. You’ll want get tickets early if they come to a nearby theater.
