The sound of distorted guitars, throbbing bass, pounding drums and jagged vocals is hardly a new thing, but there’s always room for one more at the stoner metal table if they’re as accomplished as Motor Mammoth and bring a little something extra along for the hosts.
As their guitars buzz and drone and swirl around the pummelling rhythm setion, on fancies hearing a touch of QOTSA, Masters Of reality, Unida, Kyuss – but to their eternal credit, the last thing Motor Mammoth are doing is regurgitating tired old Sabbathisms.
There’s a real groove happening on Kraken, The Snatcher In The Rye and Vampire Kiss, though these mammoths save the best for last with a righteously crushing Down On Me, followed by the quirky acapella Don’t Wrestle The Mammoth, reminiscent of Van Halen’s Happy Trails at a stretch, which leave you in no doubt that this Mammoth has something unique under the hood.
