BILLY IDOL ANNOUNCES AUSTRALIAN TOUR with CHEAP TRICK & THE ANGELS
BILLY IDOL ANNOUNCES AUSTRALIAN TOUR with CHEAP TRICK & THE ANGELS
Including Kings Park & Botanic Garden in Perth on Saturday 14 March 2015
Rock icon BILLY IDOL is returning to Australia and New Zealand for his first concert tour of Australia since 2002 and his first of New Zealand since 1987.
The original punk turned global superstar will perform indoor shows and a day on the green winery events in March and April 2015 including an evening on the green at Kings Park & Botanic Garden on Saturday 14 March. Idol’s band includes long-time collaborator and lead-guitarist Steve Stevens.
Billy Idol’s tour announcement coincides with a flurry of new Idol projects that have fans around the globe in a heightened state of excitement!
Idol’s long-awaited and riveting self-written autobiography Dancing With Myself was released worldwide on October 7 via Touchstone/Simon and Schuster and his first album of new material since 2005, Kings & Queens of the Underground, is out on October 17 on BFI Records/Kobalt Label Services.
Written by Idol himself, in his inimitable, searingly honest voice, Dancing With Myself offers an all-access pass to Billy Idol’s journey to fame. His tale is an extraordinary one, from a transient childhood divided between the United States and England, to Idol’s time as a seminal member of the 1970s London punk scene fronting the band Generation X, to his meteoric rise to stardom, propelled by a distinctive sound combining punk’s energy and ethos with a danceable, driving beat.
Beyond adding his uniquely qualified perspective to the story of the evolution of rock, Idol is a brash, lively chronicler of his own career. Delivered with the same in-your-face attitude and fire his fans have embraced for decades, Dancing With Myself offers eye-opening anecdotes full of drugs, sex, and rock ‘n’ roll that only Billy Idol can tell.
Idol’s new album Kings & Queens Of The Underground was primarily produced by Trevor Horn, with Greg Kurstin also contributing as producer to two songs, including the anthemic lead single, ‘Can’t Break Me Down’.
Idol and his band will launch a European tour in November and a North American tour in January that will continue to Australia and New Zealand in March 2015. To celebrate having Idol finally back in Australia, promoters Frontier Touring and Roundhouse Entertainment have put together a cracking tour line-up featuring special guests Cheap Trick and The Angels.
Since CHEAP TRICK burst out of Rockford, Illinois in the late 70’s, their irresistible blend of pop, punk and metal has resulted in classics like ‘I Want You To Want Me’, ‘Surrender’, ‘Dream Police’, ‘If You Want My Love’’ and the long-running #1 chart-topper ‘The Flame’. Along the way they’ve notched up more than 5,000 performances, 20 million records sold, appearances on 30 movie soundtracks and 40 gold and platinum recording awards. They have been cited as an inspiration for countless bands including Green Day, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters and Urge Overkill.
THE ANGELS have celebrated their 40th anniversary with the May release of two commemorative career-spanning albums; ‘The Angels Volume 1 – 40 Greatest STUDIO Hits’ and ‘The Angels Volume 2 – 40 Greatest LIVE Hits’, backed up with a predominantly sold-out tour stretching from May through August. Since joining in 2011, frontman Dave Gleeson has totally re-energised the band, prompting two albums of new material ‘Take It To The Streets’ (2012 – their first studio album in 14 years) and ‘Talk The Talk’ (2014) and a renewed love of touring resulting in constant sold out shows around the country.
