Sevendust kicked off the third and final leg of their 2014 tour at the International following a short 2 month break.  This was an acoustic set promoting their latest release “Time Travelers & Bonfires” which debuted #1 on Billboard’s Hard Music Albums. On a cold Tuesday night, the crowd was small in number, but loud and engaged. Lead singer Lajon Witherspoon commented Sevendust doesn’t have concerts they have family reunions. Born and raised in Nashville, Lajon said he always enjoyed Knoxville and he recognized many in attendance. Though the show was acoustic, it certainly had much more of an edge consistent with a metal band. The amplified sounds of the acoustic guitars more than adequately replaced the thunderous riffs of electric. The six-member group played seated, though Witherspoon frequently strolled the stage reaching out to excited fans. Between songs Lajon discussed things such as the writing process, the band’s trials and tribulations over their 20+ years together, and dealing with personal loss. He was tearful at times and put that emotion into every song of the performance. They played their classics reworked into acoustic as well as ones from the latest release. If you have ever seen Sevendust, you know they are group that gives their all at each performance and they have incredible energy. An Evening with Sevendust is more interactive and intimate, which worked great in this small theater. This is a must see if they are come to a nearby city.
