Shane’s Music Challenge: Soundtrack – 1996 – From Dusk Til Dawn
7.5/10

From Duck Til Dawn - Soundtrack cover

One of Tarantino best, From Dusk Til Dawn follows the outlaw Gecko brothers on the run from the law and crossing the border to Mexico following a bloody Texas holdup, until the film makes a sudden, shocking left hand turn as they find themselves in a late night bar south of the border (and south of heaven) filled with hungry vampires.

The soundtrack captures the feel of the sunbaked Texan plains, and the dry, dust-coated mouth feel of a long day on the run. Texan flag bearers ZZ Top, and both Stevie Ray and Jimmie Vaughan lead the pack, with some excellent tracks from more obscure acts The Blasted, Jon Wayne and Mexican madcap duo Tito & Tarantula pitch in with a couple of frenzied numbers to highlight the undead attack in the Titty Twister (they also appear in the film as the house band in the bar.)

It’s an eclectic beast, as with all of the maestro’s soundtracks, and it works extremely well and will appeal to any fan of boozy Texas blues.
