ZZ Top - Live In Germany 1980 DVD cover

With nary a sunglass (until 42 minutes in), furry guitar or long legged lady in sight, ZZ Top sure looked a lot different 1980-style from a mere 4 years on, once Eliminator took off and conquered the world.

They sounded different too – there’s no samples or synths on this DVD, just the ultimate uber-tight 3-piece blues rock band ripping n’ tearing through some crazy cool tunes.

And those tunes are incredible – all delivered in front of a huge audience as if they were on a tiny pub stage, yet reaching every person in the crowd.

I Thank You, Waitin’ For The Bus, Jesus Just Left Chicago, Precious & Grace, I’m Bad I’m Nationwide… that’s just the first 5 of 22. This is mad good, plus, being 1980, you get Atari-styled text announcing each song on the screen courtesy of the Rockpalast TV show – who thankfully preserved these tapes so we can now enjoy The Best Lil’ Band In Texas at a high point in their career.
