It’s only Day Four of 2014, and already we have a contender for Song Of The Year.

Songbird is the debut single from Sonic Circus, an International collective formed from the ashes of Melbourne’s Dead Star Renegade – specifically, singer Jimmy Van Zeno, guitarist Vik Hush and bassist Alan Leslie – with drums handled by New York based Peter Heckenberg, ex-BB Steel.

With Hush also now based in Texas, the band have committed to being a studio project initially, with a new song scheduled for delivery every month this year via Bandcamp, and being available for “Free or Name your price” download, an innovative approach in these uncertain times. Maybe at the end of the year they will release a physical CD? Who knows – it’s a brave new world out there.

Musically, Songbird is a meaty, swaggering rock n’ roll beast full of melody and packing a solar plexus punch, and would stand tall on Slash & Myles Kennedy’s next platter, such is it’s classy, uncompromising style.

On the strength of this tune, we can’t wait for the next instalment… hell, I can’t wait for all twelve tracks if they are of similar quality!
