The fourth annual Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival runs from August 9 through September 15, 2013 and will include a stellar lineup of multiplatinum superstars and breaking talent, featuring Alice In Chains, also with Jane’s Addiction. These seminal alternative rock bands will be joined by Coheed and Cambria and Circa Survive on the Rockstar Energy Main Stage. The Zippo Encore Festival Stage powered by Ernie Ball will host performances from Walking Papers (with Duff McKagan), Middle Class Rut, New Politics, Danko Jones, as well as 2012 Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands winner Chuck Shaffer Picture Show and the local Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands winner in each market. The COLDCOCK Herbal Whiskey Showcase Stage powered by Ernie Ball will feature performances from breaking talent including The Dead Daisies, Beware Of Darkness, Charming Liars and more bands to be announced soon.
2012 Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands winner Chuck Shaffer Picture Show will perform on the entire Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival. The Richmond, Virginia band recorded their new EP Temporary Fix (released June 25 on iTunes) with legendary rock producer Jay Baumgardner at NRG Studios in North Hollywood as part of their grand prize package. “Winning this contest was literally a dream come true and also pushed us to work harder than we ever had before,” says CSPS lead singer Ryan Johnson. “It’s been nothing short of a whirlwind since 2013! We flew out to LA in January, rehearsed for a week (10 hour days!), and spent a solid month cranking out six tunes under Jay’s [Baumgardner] guidance. He really helped develop our sound and get the best out of us in the studio. While in LA, we went to NAMM and hung with the Ernie Ball crew. This contest allowed us to grow a really great relationship with them and is such a great platform to help develop artists to get sonically (and mentally) ready for going full time. Whoever the 2013 winner is, buckle up, it’s a wild ride!”

About Ernie Ball: In 1962, veteran player and teacher Ernie Ball created Slinkys®, the iconic light gauge electric guitar strings widely revered by hundreds of guitar greats including Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, Jimmy Page, The Edge and John Mayer. In addition to hand crafting high-end Music Man® guitars and basses, Ernie Ball Inc. offers state-of-the-art instrument accessories that are carried in more than 6,000 stores in the U.S. and 110 countries worldwide. About Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival 2013 Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands Judges:
Jerry Cantrell: A lot of great singers and guitarists came out of Seattle in late eighties and early nineties. That’s just an undeniable fact. However, there’s only one Jerry Cantrell. With the distortion turned up and a host of blissfully sludged-out riffs, he inspired an entire generation to pick up the guitar with Alice In Chains’ seminal output—Facelift, Dirt, and Alice In Chains. At the same time, his voice reverberated with a melodically cool elegance turning Jar of Flies and Sap into acoustic classics. After Alice In Chains went on hiatus, he released two mind-blowing solo albums, Boggy Depot and Degradation Trip Vol. 1 & 2. He resurrected the group in 2007 with its big reunion and then the equally powerful Black Gives Way to Blue in 2009. However, Cantrell’s future is what shines brightest. Not only did he and his Alice cohorts just drop the chart-topping The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, they are closing the 2013 Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival. Who better to judge this year’s Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands than the man behind “Would?” and “Hollow”?
Duff McKagan: Do we really even have to say his name out loud? Just remember the bass line at the beginning of “It’s So Easy,” and you’ll know who we’re talking about. That is this man—Mr. Duff McKagan. Not only did he found Guns N’ Roses and play on three of the most important records ever—Appetite for Destruction and Use Your Illusion Vol. 1 & 2—but he anchored Velvet Revolver for two records packed full of bravado and brilliance. Then, there’s his other outfit Loaded and his career as a best-selling author with the acclaimed biography It’s So Easy and Other Lies. Now, Duff has joined up with old Seattle mate and Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin for Walking Papers, who will be revving up the Zippo Encore Festival Stage powered by Ernie Ball at the 2013 Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival. Once again, he’s another legend who’s perfect to judge this year’s Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands.
Jay Baumgardner: Jay Baumgardner helped shape the sound of rock ‘n’ roll in the twenty first century. As a producer and mixer his credits include Evanescence, Papa Roach, and Drowning Pool as well as Bush and Jewel. His style behind the board remains instantly recognizable, and he’s the one who designed the legendary NRG Recording Services three-room facility—which he calls his production home. He knows a hit when he hears it. The veteran on the panel, he logged two years as a judge of the Ernie Ball Battle Of The Bands, and he’ll be recording an EP for the grand prize winner.
Jesse Cannon: Truly a jack of all music industry trades, Jesse Cannon has recorded the likes of Animal Collective, The Misfits, and The Menzingers. At the same time, he launched the popular blog Musformation (The DIY Guide To The New Music Business) and penned the insider’s guide—Get More Fans: A DIY Guide To The New Music Business. Given his wide-ranging knowledge, he makes a wonderful addition to the judges panel of this year’s Battle Of The Bands at the Rockstar Energy UPROAR Festival.
